Keeping it clean between details

3 MIN READ · CARAMEL DETAILING · COLLIN COUNTY, TX

A good detail resets the car. These habits are what stretch that reset from weeks into months, and none of them takes more than a few minutes.

01 The five that matter

  1. The weekly trash minute. Every time you fill gas, empty the cabin of bottles and wrappers. Sixty seconds, and it prevents the archaeology dig.
  2. Touchless or hand wash only. Automatic brush washes grind grit into clear coat and undo paint correction. If it has spinning brushes, drive past it.
  3. Blot spills now. A drink hitting fabric has a five-minute window before it becomes a stain appointment.
  4. Sunshade up in summer. Protects the dash, and the car is actually enterable in August.
  5. Bird droppings same day. They etch clear coat fast in the heat. A damp cloth in the door pocket earns its keep.

02 What not to do

Skip the gas-station armor-all wipes on the dash (greasy shine, attracts dust), the dish-soap driveway wash (strips protection), and the dry paper towel on dusty paint (that's sandpaper). When in doubt, text us before you scrub anything you care about.

Q What should I keep in the car?

A microfiber towel, a small trash bag, and a sunshade. That kit alone keeps a detail alive twice as long.

Q Are drive-through washes really that bad?

The touchless kind is fine. The spinning-brush kind puts fine scratches in every panel, and dark cars show every one.

Q How soon after a detail can I wash the car?

Anytime, gently. If we applied protection, give it 24 hours to cure before the first wash.
