Is ceramic coating worth it?

4 MIN READ · CARAMEL DETAILING · COLLIN COUNTY, TX

Ceramic coating is the most oversold product in detailing, which is a shame, because it's genuinely excellent for the right car and owner. Here's the honest version.

01 What it actually does

02 What it does not do

03 Who should actually buy it

Keeping the car five-plus years, parking outside, or owning something you love looking at: strong yes. Leasing for two years or driving a work beater: put the money toward regular details instead. That math is honest even though we sell both.

Q How much does ceramic coating cost?

With proper paint correction first, quality jobs in this area generally run several hundred to over a thousand depending on paint condition and coating tier. Anyone quoting $150 is skipping the prep that makes it work.

Q How long does it really last?

Quality coatings, properly maintained, deliver two to five-plus years. The spray-on 'ceramic' products at the parts store last weeks; same word, different product.

Q Can I still wax over it?

You can but you mostly wouldn't; a ceramic-safe topper now and then keeps it slick. We'll show you the upkeep routine when we hand the car back.
